As usual, I have no idea what I have done during the day. Walking, swimming, eating Greek food, seen a movie at the cinema and then we bought some food, but did it really take eight hours? Crazy.

Tony Martin won three races and took bronze at the world championship time trial this year. But was still not satisfied with his season.

For three years, the German has raced as a professional. This year he won a stage, the time trial, at ENECO Tour, and suddenly he was the winner of the race too. His first ever stage race success!

He also won the German national time trial and as mentioned, finished third in the world championships, which he did in 2009 as well.

But he wished to do more. Like being able to beat Fabian Cancellara at the Tour de France. And to do well in he overall classifications too. He finished second in both time trials behind Cancellara and finished the race in 137th place. Not exactly what he wished for.

It was not a good idea to change seat position in January. It was, according to him, a huge mistake.

Since he changed it, he has suffered from tendon problems in his right knee, which meant less training than usual.

The second problem was overtraining and racing.

“I rode the Tour of California in May with a lot of commitment, then the Tour de Suisse and then did some hard Tour training. That was too intensive.”

And he suffered in the Tour de France because of it. Better luck next year when he has learnt more about his own body and how to train and race to win.
