My name is Elin - A pro cycling lover's reflections

Come and get me

Category: Cycling

As soon as my brother arrives I will leave Nyköping and travel, by car, to Austria and then try to enter also Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Reupblic, Poland and Germany during the trip. I don't know when I come back, but probably at July 8th. I will not bring my computer with me. It's too heavy!

But the trip will be great. I will (I hope) see the giant pandas and you know, I am all crazy about black and white animals, and giant pandas are unusual. Plus I am longing to see something else than Sweden for a while.

So see you soon. And I hope that I will come home and find out that Sergey Lagutin became the winner of the Uzbek National Championships, that would be fantastic.

Love/ Elin

We are the ones who make a brighter day

I said earlier that Cofidis would send a massive bunch of riders to the French National Championships. Rabobank, Skil-Shimano and Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team will all send many of their riders to the Dutch national championships.

Rabobank: Lars Boom, Koos Moerenhout, Stef Clement, Laurens ten Dam, Jos van Emden, Rick Flens, Robert Gesink, Bram de Groot, Sébastian Langeveld,Tom Leezer, Kai Reus, Tom Stamsnijder, Bram Tankink, Maarten Tjallingii and Pieter Weening.

Skil-Shimano: Roy Curvers, Theo Eltink, Floris Goesinnen, Kenny van Hummel, Koen de Kort, Piet Rooijakkers, Albert Timmer and Tom Veelers.

Vacansoleil: Thijs van Amerongen, Arnoud van Groen, Reinier Honig, Johnny Hoogerland (pictured), Gerben Löwik, Wouter Mol, Jens Mouris, Matthé Pronk, Wout Poels, Bobbie Traksel, Aart Vierhouten and Lieuwe Westra.

Skil-Shimano's team manager, Rudi Kemna, said that his team, but also Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team will try to beat Rabobank's riders. Of course. But they will have to work good together.
"As will the fact that another strong team have entered this year in the shape of Vacansoleil. We can hopefully counterbalance the Rabobank team better now," said Kemna. "I don't expect it to be easy, but it will be more orderly."

One week after the national championships Skil-Shimano and Rabobank will go to 2009 Tour de France for racing. Vacansoleil is not invited, but they will have the chance to race the Vuelta a Espana later this season. Kemna said that Skil-Shimano team will try to take the national championships, and then they can focus on the Tour de France later.
"We are going there to win," said Kemna. "There are races where we think it's important to stand up and be counted, but this time we are really focused on the result first and foremost."

I don't know what'll come

David Moncoutié (Cofidis) has made the same decision as Linus Gerdemann (who will not race the German national championships). Moncoutié will not race the French road championships. But they have different reasons for their decisions.

His wife gave birth to the couple's second child, a baby boy, on Friday. So he shall stay at home instad and spend time with his family. But really, Cofidis will have 17 riders in the race. 17 riders, it's a lot. Stéphane Auge, Alexandre Blain, Guillaume Blot, Florent Brard, Mickaël Buffaz, Jean Eudes Demaret, Hervé Duclos-Lasalle, Remi Pauriol, Sébastien Portal, Roman Villa, Amaël Moinard, Sébastien Minard, Damien Monier, Maryan Hary, Julien El Fares, Samuel Dumoulin and Christophe Kern will all participate. Incredible. I wonder how many riders the other French ProTour-squad will bring. Anyway, the French road race championships will have more participants than the road race championships in Uzbekistan. It will be harder for the French riders to win, but don't think it will be easier in Uzbekistan. It's always tremendously hard to win a race - no matter where you come from.
